10. COMPETITION RULES
10.1 The races will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the World Athletics and the Chinese Athletics Association, Label Road Races Regulations 2023 and the rule of the Race.
10.2 All participants shall wear the bib number on chest during the race. Do not cover the bib number with clothes, waist bags and other items. If the bib number being folded, covered, tore or damaged , the participants will be ceased from race, unable to roll-call, unable to obtain race results and the finisher package. Participants who use counterfeit bibs, or have altered, reproduced, tranferred or sold bibs to others will be given penalties accordingly.
10.3 Roll-Call
a. Roll-call time
Marathon: 5:30 a.m.-7:15 a.m.
Half Marathon: 5:30 a.m.-7:45 a.m.
b. Please spare sufficient time for arriving and roll-call at the starting area (60 minutes prior to the race start is suggested). The participants will go through the bib number check and the face recognition before they enter their corresponding assembly zone.
10.4 Starting Order
In the sequence of elite athletes, marathon (in separate zones) and half marathon (in separate zones), with 10 meters in-between. Participants are required to start at their corresponding assembly zone. Breaching this rule can lead to disqualification.
10.5 Start
Marathon starts at 7:30 a.m., and Half Marathon starts at 8:00 a.m..
10.6 Timing Method
Chip timing service will be provided to all participants. Chips will be activated at the point the participants cross the start line. Timing carpets are placed at the start line, every 5KM point, half point (21.0975KM), turning points and the finish line. Participants shall run through every timing carpet during the race. Those who finish within the cut-off time but without complete record from all timing points will not be qualified for final ranking. Timing chips are distributed alongside bibs at Guangzhou Marathon Expo. No deposit is required.
10.7 Cut-Off Time
In order to provide an orderly organized race, cut-off time is set for each section of the course. Timing carpets at each cut-off point will be shut down at the cut-off time in sequence, and the section of the course will be re-opened to the public traffic. Those who are unable to complete the respective distance by the cut-off time shall stop racing and leave the course immediately, in case of any danger. The corresponding legal and compensation responsibilities for accidents caused by violating the above regulations will be borne by the participants themselves. Those who drop out of the race can take event vehicle or take public transportation to the Finish. Cut-off times are shown in the table below:

10.8 Bag Storage and Pick-up
Participants shall deposit personal belongings by the order of bib number at designated area. After finishing the race, participants shall go to the respective area for collection. Please do not put valuables in your deposit bags (such as mobile phone, IDs, cash, keys, credit cards, iPads, etc.). Participants are solely responsible for the damage or loss of personal valuables/belongings.
Service of baggage deposit on race day will be closed 15 minutes prior to the race start. Please plan your time accordingly. Baggage collection will be available till 14:45 for Marathon and 12:15 for Half marathon on race day at designated areas. Those who are unable to collect the baggage by above-mentioned time please claim within one week after the race day at the organizing committee. After this one-week, all unclaimed baggage will be disposed by organizing committee.
10.9 Water, Beverage and Refreshments Stations
a. Beverage/Water station will be placed from the Start and every 5KM along the course. One Water/Sponge Station will be allocated between two neighboring Beverage/Water Stations.
b. Refreshment Stations will be set at the point of 12.5 KM ,17.5KM, 22.5KM, 27.5KM, 32.5KM, 35KM, 37.5KM and finish lines.

c. The organizing committee will set up mist station based on weather conditions.
10.10 Temporary Toilets and Environmental Protection
Temporary toilets are settled at start area, en-route (each 1KM along the race course from 2KM point to 5KM point, and each 2.5KM from 7.5KM point to 40KM point) and finish area. All participants are responsible for environmental protection and cannot litter any wrapping paper, bottles and trash or urinate/defecate in public areas.
10.11 Medical Aid
a. Medical aid stations will be set at the start area, each 2KM from start to 15KM point, each 1.5KM from 15KM to the finish line, and the finish area. On-site medical staff reserve the right to remove a participant from the race out of the best interest of the participant’s health and welfare. Participants should stop racing if ordered to do so by official personnel. Otherwise, participants are responsible for any medical expense incurred.
b. AED first aid service will be provided along the race course.
c. Medical aid volunteers will serve at medical aid stations, assisting in medical aid and maintaining race order. Participants can ask for help from these volunteers when needed.
10.12 Doping Control
Doping control is conducted under WORLD ANTI-DOPING, WA Competition Rules and Chinese Anti-Doping Regulations.

11. REGISTRATION
11.1 Age Requirements
a. For Marathon, participants shall be at least 20 years old, born before December 31st, 2003 (include).
b. For Half Marathon, participants shall be at least 16 years old, born before December 31st, 2007 (include).
*Notes:
(a) For participants who aged under 18 years old, he/she and his/her guardian, custodian or legal representative shall fully understand, consent with and co-sign the Declaration of Participation and Commitment to Health and Safety Responsibilities.
(b) For participants who aged over 70 years old, he/she and his/her relatives (including the spouse, parents, adult offspring and other adult relatives) shall fully understand, consent with and co-sign the Declaration of Participation and Commitment to Health and Safety Responsibilities.
11.2 Experiences Requirements
Must have completed Marathon or Half Marathon between January 1st, 2019 (include) and September 4th, 2023 (include). Proof documents shall be submitted during online registration. Experiences of virtual marathon will not be accepted.
11.3 Health Requirements
a. Participants must sign and submit the Health and Safety Responsibility Commitment Letter before the race bag pick-up.
b. Marathon is an athletic sport with high load and great intensity over long distances. It is also a high risk athletic sport which has high physical demands on participants. Participants shall be in healthy condition, have experience in running and have completed training with distance over half-marathon. Anyone who has any of the following conditions is not recommended to participate:
n Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (including hypertension), congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease, chronic lung disease, diabetes, chronic liver, kidney disease, tumor and other basic diseases.
Maintenance dialysis patients.
Deficiency of immune function.
Coronary artery disease and serious arrhythmia.
Diabetes with too high or too low blood sugar.
Obesity (body mass index, BMI≥30).
Caught a cold in two weeks prior to the race.
Heavy drinking or insufficient sleep the night before the race.
Pregnancy.
Heavy smokers.
Other diseases that are not suitable for doing sports.
All participants shall be liable for personal injury and property loss caused by personal health condition or other personal reasons during the event. Before the entry, participants are advised to have physical check-up (including electrocardiographic examination) in qualified medical institutions, and make a self-evaluation to confirm if the physical condition is suitable for the event of their choice.
*Notes: The setting of the courses, water/sponge station and mobile toilets are not specially set for users with wheelchair, baby carriage, roller skate etc. The organizing committee reserves the right to disqualify these participants. In addition, racing wheelchair event is not set in this race and racing wheelchair is not allowed in safety purpose. Thus, results obtained by using racing wheelchair will not be acknowledged for ranking prizes.
11.4 Registration
a. Registration and payment can be completed at the official website of Guangzhou Marathon. Details can be found at Registration Notice released at the official website. The race capacity is 30,000, with 20,000 for Marathon and 10,000 for Half Marathon. Lottery will be conducted when registration number exceeds the race capacity.
b. Successful entrants will be notified to check personal race number at the official website.
c. Race baggage pick-up: Successful entrants shall pick up race baggage from the Guangzhou Marathon Expo 2023 (time and place will be announced at the official website prior the race). Entry quotas are not transferable for any reason.
11.5 Entry Fee
Entry fee: 40 USD/person
*Entry fee is not refundable.

Top eight male and female runners (ranked by gun time) will be awarded with the following bonus respectively. For Chinese runners, equivalent amount of CNY will be given.

b. Awards For Breaking Race Record (counted by gun time)
(a) Male
The runner whose racing time is under 2:08:04 (NOT including 2:08:04) and ranked 1st in the race, will be awarded with US$20000;
(b) Female
The runner whose racing time is under 2:23:50 (NOT including 2:23:50) and ranked 1st in the race, will be awarded with US$20000.
c. Special Awards For Chinese Winners (ranked by gun time)
The 1st male and the 1st female Chinese Marathon runners will be awarded with a special award of 30000 RMB. If they receive ranking prize at the same time, they will be awarded according to the higher bonuses and will not be given duplicate bonuses.
12.2 Half Marathon
Ranking Prize: Top eight male and female runners (ranked by gun time) will be awarded with the following bonus respectively. For Chinese runners, equivalent amount of CNY will be given.

12.3 All above-mentioned awards will rank by gun time. Participants will be disqualified if they fail the doping test. The vacancy will not be filled.
12.4 All above-mentioned awards are subject to a 20% personal income tax. In addition, according to the Label Road Races Regulations 2023, there shall be a 2% levy on the published gross prize money (i.e. before any penalties and taxes) for the top 8 overall finishers. This levy represents the elite athletes’ contribution to the anti-doping fund.
The contribution will be deducted by the organizing committee from the sums paid to elite athletes and paid by the organizing committee directly to World Athletics.
12.5 Top 3 male and female participants of Marathon and Half Marathon will be given a trophy and a medal.
12.6 Race T-shirts, race bags, bibs, timing chips and Official Program will be provided to eligible runners at Guangzhou Marathon EXPO 2023.
12.7 The participants who finish before the cut-off time will be awarded with post-race packages and medals.
12.8 Race results and certificates will be accessible for self-printing on the Guangzhou Marathon official website after the race. Split time, gun time, net time will be listed on the certificate. Participants will fail for ranking if any split time point is missed.
13. PUNISHMENTS
Video recording are set on the entire race course. Participants will be ceased from the race, and have their results annulled if they committed any of the followings. Further penalties, such as banned from future races for a period of up to 5 years or indefinite, will be given depending on the circumstances. Such conditions will also be reported to the Chinese Athletics Association, and additional penalties may be imposed:
a. Falsity age or identity information, or let someone else run the race.
b. Run with 2 or more timing chips, or running with a timing chip of the other gender).
c. Racing in relay.
d. Not following the start order and start at non-designated area. Rule violations when starting;
e. Continuing to race after cut-off time or returning to the course after withdrawing from the race.
f. Not racing along the course. Taking shortcuts or any transportation (vehicle, subway, bike etc.)
g. Crossing the finish line repeatedly or claiming post-race packages and medals with illegible bibs.
h. Altering, producing, transferring and/or selling the bib.
i. Failing to follow instructions given by race officials and staff, disturbing the race order, causing riots.
j. Uncivil behaviors.
k. Concealing health status and providing false registration information.
l. Violating rules of doping control.
m. Other behaviors against the social security rules and rules of the race.
Participants who enrolled by misrepresentation or transferred entry from another person will be ceased from Guangzhou Marathon race for life, and shall be solely responsible and accountable for all the consequences. The Organizing Committee reserved the rights to investigate the responsibility of related persons and appeal to the law.
14. INSURANCE
Insurance will be provided to all participants and race related personnel. Providing false registration information will cause uninsured situation. The Specifications of Life Accident Insurance will be available at the official website of Guangzhou Marathon prior to the race.
